Larry Nagengast has the skills and experience that editors and businesses search for when they need a talented wordsmith to execute their most important projects.
As a reporter with the News Journal papers in Wilmington, Del., Larry covered schools, courts, government and consumer issues, As an editor, he worked on the city desk, guided the operations of the features sections and supervised a team of staff and freelance writers to produce six zoned weekly community news sections. He won national awards for his education writing and regional awards for his coverage of consumer news.
Larry has written one book, Pierre S. du Pont IV, Governor of Delaware, 1977-1985, an oral history of the du Pont administration, and has edited three others, including Vietnam Mailbag, Voices From the War, 1968-1972, an award-winning social history by Nancy E. Lynch, and The Heart of America, a collection of images from all 50 states by photojournalist Kevin Fleming that was recognized as one of “America’s Best” by Reader’s Digest magazine. He is currently writing the memoirs of Frank Biondi, a prominent attorney, political consultant and author of Delaware’s most significant banking legislation, and the centennial history of the Town of Bellefonte.
Larry’s work appears online for Delaware Public Media and in several publications, including Delaware Today, Delaware Beach Life and Out & About magazines. His contributions to Delaware Public Media have won awards from the Delaware Press Association and the National Federation of Press Women.
He operates his own business, Larry Nagengast Public Relations and Communications, providing writing and editing for print and online media and public relations consulting to businesses, nonprofits and government officials. His public relations clients have businesses and nonprofits focused on real estate, digital marketing, information technology, accounting, the law, event management and the arts. He managed media strategy for Chip Flowers, the successful candidate for Delaware state treasurer in 2010.
His extensive community involvement includes service on the board of directors of the Brandywine Little League and the Friends of the Brandywine Hundred Library.
A graduate of Fordham University and the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy before beginning a career in journalism.
